Ciclovia del mare

Every year, Piedmont becomes a premier destination for cycling culture and sustainable mobility. Stretching from Locarno in Switzerland all the way to Nice on the French Riviera, the Schweiz-Meer Radweg (Switzerland-to-Sea Cycle Route) connects breathtaking landscapes, an extraordinary cultural heritage, and the unmistakable Mediterranean lifestyle.

A total route of 470 km designed for gravel, bikepacking, and slow cycle tourism. But the real story unfolds on the ground: from the majestic Alps to the UNESCO World Heritage rolling hills of the “Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont: Langhe-Roero and Monferrato”, all the way to the sparkling blue of the Mediterranean.

The exceptional value of this itinerary was recently celebrated on a national stage. At the 11th edition of the Green Road Award—the Italian Oscar of Cycle Tourism—the Piedmont Region secured third place ex aequo with the Cycle Route of the Sea (Ciclovia del Mare). The award was received in Sanremo by the Regional Councilor for Transport, Marco Gabusi.

In its official reasoning, the jury praised the project for its ability to guide travelers through “the various souls of Piedmont” before reaching the Ligurian Sea. Along the Piedmontese stretch alone, the cycle path crosses six provinces and 97 municipalities, representing a powerful engine for local tourism and economic growth.
